5 Tips for Designing an Appealing Law Firm Newsletter

An email newsletter is one of the most effective ways to market your law firm online. And while the content of a newsletter is important, the presentation is key, too. To make an impact on your audience, you have to design an email that they will catch—and hold—their attention.

Here are some tips to help you do just that.

1. Design a Header

Every newsletter needs a header. The newsletter is the banner image you include at the top of a newsletter, typically featuring your law firm’s logo or name. If your newsletter has a branded name, that will also feature in your header.

The header is generally the first thing a subscriber will notice when they open your email. Use it to create a compelling first impression.

2. Pick a Color Scheme

Consistency is essential for a successful newsletter, and a consistent color scheme will help with this. If you already have a color scheme for your website or logo, consider using the same colors for your newsletter. If not, choose colors that go well together. Then, use those colors for the text, symbols, and borders in each email.

3. Break Up the Content

A wall of text can be intimidating to readers—especially if they’re viewing your newsletter on mobile. To make your content more digestible, break it up into different subtopics and arrange them in blocks, each with its own subheading. (Just remember to stick to a single theme for the whole email.)

4. Use Standard Fonts

When designing a newsletter, it can be tempting to pick decorative fonts to make your content seem more stylish. However, this can be off-putting and will inevitably make your newsletter harder to read. Instead, opt for a basic font like Times New Roman or Arial. This will make it easier for your subscribers to read and understand your emails.

Don’t use too many fonts, either. The standard approach is to use one for your headings and another for the body text of the newsletter.

5. Use Visuals

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s doubly true when it comes to newsletters. An effective newsletter should always include images or graphics that relate to the content.

Be careful not to overdo it, though. Not only will too many visuals clutter up an email, but it will also slow the loading time for subscribers using mobile.
